कोई 10-12 साल पहले एटीएम कार्ड का पहली बार जब इस्तेमाल किया तो मन किस्म-किस्म की शंकाओं से भरा हुआ था। मसलन- रुपये निकलेंगे भी या नहीं। नोट ही निकलेंगे न कहीं बाबा जी का ठूल्लू तो नहीं। मशीन मेरा कार्ड खा तो नहीं जाएगी। कहीं पांच हजार की जगह तीन हजार तो नहीं निकल आएंगे, मशीन का क्या भरोसा। मशीन के अंदर गया कार्ड लौटकर आएगा भी या दोबारा बैंक से लेना पड़ेगा। आदि-आदि।
एटीएम मशीन का एक वो दौर भी था, जब मशीन कार्ड को भीतर ले जाती थी और तब ही बाहर फेंकती थी जब तक पूरा पेट (यानी ट्रांजेक्शन) साफ न हो जाए। एकाध दफा तो मैंने ही कार्ड उलटा डाल दिया उसमें। फिर होना क्या था, फंस गया। बाद में मशीन खोलकर निकलवाना पड़ा। बाहर खड़े लोगों की गालियां सुननी पड़ीं अलग। कई बार तो ऐसा भी हुआ एटीएम पिन ही याद न रहता था। फिर पिन को भी जरूर कामों की लिस्ट में दर्ज करना पड़ा।
कार्ड इश्यू होने के कई दिनों तक रुपये यह सोचकर नहीं निकाले कि निकाल भी पाऊंगा या नहीं। मदद के लिए घर के किसी बंदे को साथ ले जाना पड़ा था। कभी-कभी तो एटीएम मशीन से पैसे निकालना गणित के सवाल हल करने से ज्यादा कठिन लगता था। वही संशय रुपये ही निकलेंगे या कागज के टुकड़े।
और अब एटीएम इतना आसान हो गया है कि बच्चे तक निकाल लेते हैं। यहां तक कि किसी अनजानी कॉल पर ओटीपी बता देने से घर बैठे ही रुपये बैंक से साफ हो जाते हैं। आदमी ने कितनी तरक्की कर ली है न। खुद से ही खुद को मात देने लगा है।
