मुस्कुराने के लिए पैसे खर्च नहीं करने पड़ते हैं। फिर भी कुछ लोग ऐसे भी होते हैं, जो मुस्कान को अपने चेहरे से कोसों दूर रखते हैं। ऐसे ही लोगों में एक हैं शर्मा साहब। उनके चेहरे पर कभी किसी ने मुस्कान नहीं देखी है, जहां काम करते हैं, वहां वह अपनी टीम के लीडर हैं।
अच्छा काम जानते हैं और करते हैं। लेकिन, उनके सीरियस रहने का प्रभाव उनके काम और टीम पर भी पड़ता है। उनके दफ्तर में ही उनके नजदीक एक और टीम काम करती है। उसका लीडर शर्मा साहब से कम जानकार है, लेकिन जिंदादिल है। उसकी टीम के लोगों का ज्ञान शर्मा साहब की टीम से कम है, लेकिन शर्मा साहब के व्यवहार की वजह से उनकी टीम का काम लोगों को नहीं दिखता है। वहीं दूसरी टीम का लीडर अपनी टीम के एक-एक सदस्य के काम को वरीय अधिकारियों के सामने रखता है। एक बार शर्मा साहब की टीम का एक सदस्य मिला, उसने कहा, मुझे ऐसा व्यक्ति खोजना है, जिसने मेरे बॉस को मुस्कुराते हुए देखा है।
इसके बाद वह बताता है कि शर्मा साहब के सीरियस रहने का खामियाजा उनकी टीम को कैसे भुगतना पड़ता है। जब काम की प्लानिंग होती है, तो उनसे कुछ पूछने की किसी की हिम्मत नहीं होती है। हम सिर्फ उतना ही करते हैं, जितना वह बताते हैं। दूसरी टीम के बारे वह बताता है कि उसका लीडर अपने हर मेंबर की राय जानना चाहता है। टीम का सबसे नया सदस्य भी अपनी बात बेबाकी से रखता है। इससे उनके काम में नयापन दिखता है और हमारे काम में मोनोटोनी।
कुमार साहब जैसे कुछ लोग गंभीरता की चादर ओढ़ कर अपना तो नुकसान करते ही हैं, दूसरों का भी भला नहीं होने देते हैं। गंभीर बने रहने में मेहनत करनी पड़ती है, मुस्कुराने में जतन की जरूरत नहीं पड़ती है।
