आज प्रसारण दिवस है। वर्ष 1927 में 23 जुलाई (तिलक का जन्मदिवस भी) मुंबई से इस दिन रेडियो प्रसारण आरम्भ हुआ था. वैसे 1923 में भी प्रयास हुआ था. आज तो 414 स्टेशन हैं, 90% से अधिक क्षेत्र और 99% से अधिक जनसँख्या की रेडियो प्रसारण तक पहुँच है. बड़े-बड़े भारी रेडियो की तुलना में आज का ट्रांजिस्टर सेट तो सौंवा भाग है. मोबाईल में भी रेडियो है. जिस रेडियो की विदाई करने की पूरी तरह तैयारी थी, लगभग 15 वर्ष पूर्व स्फिंक्स की तरह अपने FM अवतार में वह पुनर्जीवित हो गया. आज यह गाड़ी में, साइकिल पर, खेत में सर्वत्र दिखता है. भौतिकी, इलेक्ट्रौनिकी, संचार और रचना धर्मिता का संगम रेडियो है. नाम ‘रेडियो’ भौतिकी के रेडियो संचार में उपयोग में आने वाले रेडियो वाल्व से निकला है यद्यपि अब उन बड़े- बड़े, भारी ,काफी बिजली खाकर गर्म होने वाले वाल्व का उपयोग इनमे नहीं होता . किस तरह कई बातें मिलकर आविष्कार (इन्वेंशन) और नवाचार (इन्नोवेशन) तक पहुंचाती है, आज का ट्रांज़िस्टर इस ही का उदाहरण है. यदि सेमिकंडक्टर, ट्रांज़िस्टर, सेल न होते तो आज भी उसी तरह रेडियो घर में एक कोने में स्थिर रखा रहा होता
हमारे पिताजी बताते थे कि जब दादा जी ने श्रीनगर (गढ़वाल) में रहते हुए 1940 के दशक के अंत में (या 50 के दशक के आरम्भ में) रेडिओ पहली बार बजाया तो आस-पास के गाँवों से उसे देखने के लिए लोग आए थे ! अब तो कम्यूनिटी रेडियो स्टेशन के रूप में गाँवों, स्कूलों के स्टेशन खुलने लगे हैं. किस तरह इगनू आदि इसका शिक्षा के लिए उपयोग कर रहे हैं, सब जानते हैं. मेरा पहला प्रसारण 1988 में हुआ था, 4 अक्टूबर को. दिल्ली आकाशवाणी के रिपोर्टर चाहते थे कि राष्ट्रपति भवन जाने से पहले हम INSA युवा वैज्ञानिक पदक विजेता अपने शोध के बारे में बताएं पर हिन्दी में. अकेला मै तत्काल तैयार हुआ।
वर्ष 1990 से मैं नियमित रूप से उत्तरायण तथा अन्य कार्यक्रमों में बोलता रहा हूँ. रेडियो सिटी, रेनबो, पुणे, शिमला, बेंगलुरु, दिल्ली केंद्रों ने, BBDU आदि ने साक्षात्कार तथा बाइट्स प्रसारित की हैं। विज्ञान भारती जैसे राष्ट्रीय प्रसारणों में रहा. अच्छा अनुभव रहा. जरधारी जी, जिज्ञासु जी, हरीश सनवाल जी, श्रीमती सनवाल, सुभाष थलेडी जी जैसे रेडियो के समर्पित व्यक्तियों ने कुछ मास पूर्व तक लखनऊ से उत्तरायण चलाया. जगदम्बा डिमरी जी, के एन पन्त जी, श्रीमती तिवारी जी, बडोनी जी, मेरी पत्नी श्रीमती विनीता एवं अनिता डिमरी जी जैसे एंकर्स ने कार्यक्रम में बहुत रंग डाले. अर्चना जी, मीनू जी, नूतन जी, रमा जी, सुमोना जी जैसे लोग एक से एक अच्छे कार्यक्रमों से जोड़ा, रमा जी ने विज्ञान रेल तथा शुक्र पारगमन पर मुझसे सीध प्रसारण कराया. सुशील बैनर्जी साहब तथा कलाकार/ सहायक निदेशक श्री विजय बैनर्जी, संजय जी, पाठक जी (दो) जैसे लोगों से संपर्क हुआ. विजय बैनर्जी साहब ने अम्बर में बारात में अपनी भावपूर्ण मधुर आवाज़ से जान डाल दी थी. मैंने भी इस रेडियो धारावाहिक में काम किया- जो बच्चों के दौड़ने में पैर पटकने की आवाजें थी, उनके लिए मैं भी दौड़ा था।
वैसे एक कविता का पाठन भी किया. अनेक कवितायें भी गेय रूप में हेम सिंह जी के सुन्दर संगीत संयोजन में प्रसारित हुईं. आकाशवाणी के क्षेत्रीय संस्थान द्वारा 5 दिवसीय विज्ञान लोकप्रियकरण प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम का दायित्त्व सुशील जी ने मुझ दिया. इन कार्यक्रमों में से कोई दिल्ली प्रशिक्षण संस्थान में आदर्श कार्यक्रम की तरह रखा गया, कोई यूनेस्को से पुरस्कृत हुआ तो हाल मे सुमंगला जी द्वारा बेंगलुरु में रेकॉर्ड किए कार्यक्रम को दिल्ली में A+ श्रेणी में रखा गया. अर्चना जी ने 10 सर्गों का विज्ञान पर आधारित धारावाहिक ‘ अम्बर में बारात’ भौतिकी के वर्ष 2005 में लिखवाया. इसका संपादन महीनों तक दिलीप जी के साथ बैठ कर शनिवार, रविवार में हुआ। दूरदर्शन के पूर्व अतिरिक्त महानिदेशक और बहुत अच्छे मित्र डॉ. सतीश ग्रोवर ने इगनू से जोड़ा. आज सुबह-सुबह युवा रेडियो टीवी पत्रकार प्रणव अग्निहोत्री जी के फ़ोन ने ये सब स्मृतियाँ जगा दीं! रेडियो के सभी श्रोताओं तथा स्टाफ को प्रसारण दिवस पर बधाई।
यह इस लिए भी स्मरणीय है क्योंकि दूर संचार में भारत का योगदान है. वर्ष 1990 के दशक में अमेरिका के इंजीनियरों के संगठन ने मान लिया था कि मार्कोनी से पूर्व जगदीश चन्द्र बोस ने वायरलेस संचार कर लिया था (चित्र श्रीमती अर्चना जी के सौजन्य से जिसमे भारत के डायनोसौर पर शोध के लिए विख्यात भू विज्ञानी प्रोफ़ेसर अशोक साहनी, अर्चना जी (कार्यक्रम बनाने वालीं) एवं नूतन जी के साथ बच्चे देखे जा सकते हैं. यह कार्यक्रम अंतर-राष्ट्रीय स्टार पर पुरस्कृत हुआ था). शेष चित्रों में हैं जे सी बोस, तथा नोबेल विजेता विलियम शौक्ले (ट्रांजिस्टर), जॉन बारडीन (ट्रांज़िस्टर)।
